For the third consecutive year, Panama maintained an highlights participation in the International Physics Tournament of the Weizmann Institute of Sciences, in which 18 countries from different continents competed.
Panama was represented by the students Gabriel Baca, 19; Alan Burakoff, 18; Maia Hirsh and Blas Schverdfinger, both 16, in the company of their teacher Alejandro Leiro of the Issac Rabin Institute in Panama. The CIR came to Israel after winning the competition in Panama.
The contest consists of creating safety boxes that can only be opened by knowing the physical laws and activating them to access the interior of the same container. The teams must open the boxes of the contarios, but also avoid that theirs be opened. It also takes into consideration the construction of the same box and the way in which knowledge of physics is used to keep it closed or access it.
